Otter Tabs stores user preferences and settings locally in your browser's extension storage, including:

2. Permissions & How They're Used

Otter Tabs requests the following permissions for specific purposes:

Storage Permission: Stores your preferences, favorite games, custom shortcuts, theme settings, wallpapers, cursor styles, widget preferences, and cached game data. This keeps the new tab page responsive and preserves your settings between browser sessions.

Bookmarks Permission: Displays your browser bookmarks in the Bookmarks section of the replacement new tab page. The extension reads your bookmark tree to show bookmark folders and links. It does not modify or upload bookmarks.

Top Sites Permission: Displays your browser's frequently visited sites in the Sites section of the new tab page. This uses Chrome's native Top Sites API and does not collect or transmit your browsing history.

Network/Host Permissions: Used to:

Favicon Permission: Displays website icons beside bookmarks, top sites, and shortcuts in the new tab page for visual identification.

Geolocation Permission: Provides the optional weather widget with your approximate location to retrieve local forecasts. This is only used after you explicitly enable the weather widget and is not stored or transmitted except as coordinates sent to the Open-Meteo weather service.

3. Third-Party Services & Data Handling

Otter Tabs integrates with external services to provide games and optional features:

OtterGames (api.ottergames.org)

Used to retrieve the live game catalog and homepage. No personal data is transmitted with these requests—only a request for publicly available game information.

Playhop (playhop.com)

Games hosted on Playhop are loaded within Otter Tabs' in-page player. Playhop is an independent third-party service that may display advertisements and may collect technical data in accordance with their own privacy policy.

Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com)

Used only for the optional weather widget. Only your geographic coordinates (not location name or personal data) are sent to retrieve the forecast.

These services operate independently and have their own privacy policies. Otter Tabs does not control how these services handle data.

Otter Tabs itself does not display advertisements. However:
